Donations & support
Your support will help us unite culture and preservation of forgotten and unknown history
We are a non-profit organization that aims to bring the local history and culture of Somerville, NJ to life. We are passionate about preserving and sharing the stories of our community in The Ville and we invite you to join us on our journey. Our mission is to uplift and document the stories of the African Americans who contributed to the growth of Somerville and preserve the community’s African American history.
The Ubuntu Cultural Pavilion was established to augment the history of Somerville to include its history of contributions of Black and African American residents whose involvement and impact have been overshadowed, like much of American history involving formerly enslaved peoples, by the town’s Revolutionary War connections. It is the mission and purpose of UCP to challenge this neglect and change this tradition.
How Do I Give?
Every oak begins as an acorn. Every lasting record of The Ville begins with a story someone decided to keep. We are a museum without walls. Our work lives in libraries, festivals, community gatherings, and online, wherever The Ville’s story needs to be told. Every gift to UCP carries that work forward: preserving, interpreting, and sharing the heritage of The Ville in Somerville.
Gifts support UCP’s general mission. If you would like your gift to go to a specific purpose, please contact us at info. We will confirm in writing whether we can accept it that way.
Unrestricted gifts let a community-rooted museum do what it can’t plan for in advance. They cover the everyday costs of carrying this work into the community, and they let us act quickly when a story, a photograph, or an opportunity to preserve something comes to us.
Giving levels
Every giving level, from Plant a Seed to Legacy Oak, supports our mission in full. The names are symbols of growth, not a menu of what a gift buys.
